Rules Regarding use of Social Media by Government Servants
Consequent upon the Office Memorandum dated 2nd September 2024 issued by the Government of Pakistan, Cabinet Secretariate, Establishment Division, Islamabad. No government servant whether under Federal Government or any Provincial Government, can participate in any activity of Social Media Platform. The Government Servants can only participate in Social Media with the express permission of the Government for Government Social Media Platforms. In the said Office Memorandum, it has been clarified that under Rule 18 of the Rules ibid bars a Government Employee or Officer from sharing official information or document with a government servant unauthorized to receive it or a private person or press. Therefore, it is very clear that rules regarding use of social media by the government servants have been framed. In future, Government Employees of Pakistan are under watch for their activities on social media.
The Government Servants should work under the rules of Service, because such illegal activities can harm the national security or friendly relations with foreign states. Use of social media has become shameful, this why rules regarding use of social media by the government servants have been framed.
